Astrology Isn’t an Excuse—It’s a Tool for Growth to Stop Self Sabotage

If you’re here for actionable tips and astrological insights, this post might feel a little different. Today, I’m sharing a personal reflection—a kind of diary entry—about how astrology has helped me confront harmful patterns in my life. My hope is that in seeing my process, you’ll find a bit of your own story reflected back and gain clarity on how astrology can guide you toward positive change.

The thing about astrology is that learning you have deeply ingrained tendencies, carved into your psyche like the Colorado River etched into the Grand Canyon, doesn’t mean you’re doomed to let them deepen unchecked. It doesn’t give you a free pass to shrug and say, “Well, this is just the way I am—see, it’s right there in my chart.”

You’re not made of stone. You can stop self-sabotaging.

What astrology offers is something far more empowering: the ability to name the nebulous. It’s like adjusting the lens on a camera to bring blurry shapes into sharp focus. It gives you a way to understand where your perceptions come from and—this part is key—the space to dis-identify with them enough to stop hurting yourself and others.

For example, astrology doesn’t just tell you that abandonment is a theme in your life; it helps you see where and how you’re acting out that theme. It highlights where you’re “worried about it” so you can begin to act differently—whether that’s at work, at home, with your partner, or when you’re alone, staring into the dark at night.

My Experience: Confronting the Patterns in My Chart

Through my own chart, I’ve come face-to-face with tendencies I didn’t want to admit to myself. For the longest time, I thought my intentions were pure and good. But astrology revealed how much of my behavior was rooted in an inferiority complex—every action I made toward others was secretly begging for approval. I assumed people didn’t like me, and that assumption bled into everything I did. Unsurprisingly, this made people not like me. (#clownlife, indeed.)

I see it clearly in my chart: Scorpio Moon conjunct Pluto in the 11th house, trine Mars in Cancer conjunct Chiron in the 7th. (If thats too complex for you - its all good - just know it’s a tough placement), and I’ve known these components of my personality for years. But knowing is only the first step. I’m still working on the triggers, of course. Its deep and tangled, but it's begun separating from my identity.

In fact, I spent nearly a year in isolation to reflect on how I’ve hurt others—not just how they’ve hurt me. How I’ve manipulated others—not just how they’ve manipulated me. And how my suspicious nature has left me unable to trust anyone, including myself.

Astrology didn’t give me an excuse to stay stuck in these patterns. It gave me the tools to understand them, recognize their origins, and begin the hard, slow work of change. Without that clarity, I might have spent years—maybe decades—hurting people and losing connections before I even realized what I was doing.

Breaking Self-Sabotage Cycles with Astrology

Recognizing self-sabotage patterns is the first step—but what comes next?

Different people need different approaches to break these cycles. Below are a few ways to move forward, depending on what resonates with you.

1️⃣ Shadow Work: Facing the Root Cause

If your self-sabotage stems from deep-seated fears, limiting beliefs, or unprocessed emotions, shadow work can help you uncover and integrate these hidden parts of yourself.

2️⃣ Journaling & Goal-Setting: Getting Clear on What You Actually Want

Sometimes, self-sabotage happens because you’re not fully aligned with your goals—or you don’t believe you’re capable of achieving them. Clarifying your true desires and building self-trust can shift these patterns.

3️⃣ Inner Child Healing: Rewriting Old Patterns

Many self-sabotage behaviors stem from childhood wounds—unconscious beliefs formed early in life that make you feel undeserving, unsafe, or stuck. Astrology can help you identify where these wounds show up and how to step into a higher, healed version of yourself.

4️⃣ Self-Identity & Confidence: Redefining Who You Are

If your self-sabotage is tied to low self-worth, people-pleasing, or fear of failure, working with astrology can help you redefine yourself on your own terms and align with your chart’s strengths.

5️⃣ Habit Breaking & Discipline: Quitting What No Longer Serves You

Sometimes, self-sabotage is tied to bad habits or cycles we struggle to break. If you’re looking to quit something—whether it’s a mindset, behavior, or even a substance—astrology can provide a timing-based approach to make the change stick.

6️⃣ Chiron & Healing: Turning Pain into Personal Power

If you struggle with feeling like you’ll never "fix" yourself or break free from wounds that seem ingrained in your life, Chiron placements and transits can help you reframe your pain as a source of strength rather than a limitation.

7️⃣ Personalized Guidance: Applying This to Your Own Chart

If you’re not sure which of these paths fits you best, or you want deeper insight into your specific self-sabotage patterns and how to break them, a personal astrology consultation can provide clarity and actionable steps tailored to you.

  • Self-sabotage isn’t random—it’s often linked to deep patterns in your birth chart. Recognizing these placements helps you work with them rather than against them.

  • Astrology reveals not just your struggles, but your solutions. Knowing where self-sabotage shows up in your chart allows you to approach change with awareness and strategy.

  • Breaking these patterns requires action, not just awareness. Whether through shadow work, inner child healing, goal-setting, or personal astrology insights, transformation happens when you engage with your chart.

  • Your birth chart isn’t a life sentence—it’s a map for change. Once you understand the patterns holding you back, you can start making intentional choices that break the cycle.
